Degree Planner
A very interesting and rewarding project I was involved with was the Degree Planner. My software engineering students and I put together this prototype. It's a tool to help students plan the sequence of courses they need to take to satisfy their degree requirements.
At the time we developed this students had only a paper flowchart of required courses. There was nothing to help them craft an actual plan based on the conditions of their real-life situation. This tool presents a visual representation of a course plan and allows students to manipulate it much like a spreadsheet to depict different consequences.
While this specific tools didn't go beyond the prototype stage it did serve as a springboard for the campus administration to develop their own tool that achieved the same goals.
